A 41-year-old man is in police custody after allegedly attempting to bribe a police officer during a joint traffic operation with the Land Transport Authority (LTA) in Sigatoka. The incident took place on the Queens Road near Koromumu during a routine traffic stop.
According to the police report, the suspect was a passenger in a vehicle stopped for inspection. He allegedly tried to offer a police officer a $200 bribe to allow the vehicle to continue without further checks. Officers quickly detained the man, and a subsequent search reportedly uncovered dried leaves, suspected to be marijuana, in his possession.
The suspect was taken to the Sigatoka Police Station with the seized substances, which were sent for forensic analysis.
