Ailava Samuels, a 19-year-old contestant from Fiji, has made history by being crowned Miss Pacific Islands 2026, marking the end of a nine-year title drought for her nation. Her victory was celebrated during the 37th Miss Pacific Islands Pageant, held at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa in Nadi, where she demonstrated remarkable resilience in the face of cyberbullying and criticism.
Throughout the competitive event, Ms. Samuels showcased her strength and grace, earning the admiration of both the audience and fellow contestants. Upon reflecting on her hard-fought journey, she expressed heartfelt gratitude, attributing her achievements to divine intervention. “I feel so blessed,” she said, acknowledging the challenges she encountered during the competition. “This journey was not an easy one and it has not been an enjoyable one.”
Ms. Samuels emphasized the significance of support from her family, friends, and fellow contestants, highlighting how community played a pivotal role in overcoming adversity. She declared, “I will give back all the honour and glory to the Man above for bringing me this far, strengthening me and for reminding me that He knows what He is doing in my life.”
In addition to winning the title, she also garnered the Best Interview award at the pageant, further solidifying her accomplishments. Reflecting on her journey, Ms. Samuels shared an inspiring Bible verse, Jeremiah 29:11, which underscores her belief that there is a greater purpose in life’s challenges. “What I must do from there is to try and see the positives because at the end of every tunnel is light,” she remarked.
