The Ministry of Fisheries Research, in partnership with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR), has successfully concluded a two-day financial literacy workshop aimed at enhancing the livelihoods of individuals involved in Fiji’s mabe pearl sector.
The workshop, held in Savusavu from February 24 to 25, 2026, specifically targeted local communities engaged in mabe pearl farming. It focused on improving participants’ financial management skills, providing them with practical tools to effectively manage their income and expenses. This initiative is expected to foster improved profitability and promote the long-term sustainability of their businesses.
Organizers emphasized that enhancing financial literacy is a crucial step toward empowering these communities, enabling them to take greater control over their operations. By helping them achieve more stable economic outcomes, the workshop positions the mabe pearl sector for future success.
This collaborative effort not only highlights the significance of developing local expertise and economic self-sufficiency but also ensures that the benefits of the pearl farming industry are maximized for the communities involved. With increased financial understanding, local farmers can better navigate their economic landscape, leading to a hopeful and sustainable future for the mabe pearl sector.
