Saimoni Nacolawa, a lawyer, was overcome with relief when the High Court in Lautoka dismissed sedition and political violence charges against him and 25 co-defendants on Thursday. Justice Samuela Qica ruled that the prosecution failed to present credible evidence supporting allegations that the group had conspired to overthrow the Government in 2015.

Nacolawa, who heads Nacolawa and Company, described this prolonged legal struggle, lasting nearly a decade, as the toughest challenge of his professional journey. The case stemmed from a client mistakenly connecting his name to the accusations on a laptop, which propelled him into this intricate legal battle.

Throughout the ordeal, Nacolawa expressed immense gratitude towards his legal team, acknowledging their steadfast support during his moments of despair over the case’s potential repercussions. He also highlighted the emotional toll on his family, who faced considerable distress but are now celebrating the positive verdict.

With the past finally behind him, Nacolawa looks ahead to a new chapter, as he plans to retire by the end of the year. He expresses eagerness to prioritize family time, signaling a hopeful perspective as he emerges from this challenging period in his career.
