Fiji Unveils Roofed I-Recycle Station to Boost Waste Sorting

Fiji Launches I-Recycle Station to Boost Recycling Infrastructure

Waste Recyclers Fiji Limited (WRFL) has officially launched the I-Recycle Station, a vital step towards enhancing the recycling infrastructure in Fiji by improving the connection between the I-Recycle Hub and the Frames and Bags setup. This innovative facility is designed to meet the growing demand for practical, durable, and economical recycling solutions, marking a significant advancement in WRFL’s ongoing mission to increase recycling rates and minimize landfill waste.

Managing Director Joseph Inoke noted the station’s features, including a roofing system that protects materials from the weather, transforming outdoor and semi-covered waste collection points. The design aims to meet the needs of a wide array of users, such as those in industrial zones, corporate settings, and hospitality establishments, thereby creating an organized and hygienic environment for effective waste segregation.

“The I-Recycle Station represents a new chapter in how we think about recycling infrastructure in Fiji,” stated Inoke, underscoring WRFL’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement in recycling practices. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to foster awareness and responsibility towards recycling across communities in Fiji.

This launch aligns with WRFL’s goals and builds upon its previous successes. In 2024, the organization successfully diverted nearly 5,000 tonnes of recyclable materials, a critical achievement in the nation’s waste management efforts. WRFL’s work not only emphasizes the importance of recycling but also highlights the impact of community and collaboration.

By partnering with various sectors, including government and educational institutions, WRFL is paving the way for a more sustainable future. As a finalist for the 2024 Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO) Awards, WRFL’s initiatives are a testament to its enduring commitment to environmental sustainability and showcase the progress that small island nations can make in the global arena of recycling and waste management.

The I-Recycle Station stands as a beacon of hope and dedication to a cleaner, more sustainable future for Fiji, illustrating the power of community-driven efforts to bring about meaningful change in waste management practices.
