The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has officially endorsed the Civic Awareness Campaign spearheaded by the Ministry of Local Government, as Fiji prepares for its upcoming Local Government Elections. This initiative marks a significant milestone in the electoral journey of the nation.

Anaseini Senimoli, the Acting Deputy Supervisor of Elections, shared the FEO’s excitement, highlighting that this campaign represents the official commencement of election preparations. The initiative is the result of more than two years of collaboration involving the Ministry, Municipal Councils, and various stakeholders, and the FEO is keenly anticipating its implementation.

Senimoli underscored the significance of the Civic Awareness Campaign in empowering communities by enhancing their understanding of local government operations, the roles and responsibilities of elected councillors, and the critical importance of voter participation. This effort not only aims to increase civic engagement but also to foster informed decision-making among voters.

The launch event showcased the Civic Awareness Campaign alongside technical sessions involving Municipal Councils and the FEO. These sessions concentrated on electoral administration resources and messaging for civic education, equipping local leaders with essential tools to engage their communities effectively in the electoral process. This proactive approach is designed to ensure a well-informed electorate as Fiji approaches this pivotal electoral event.

The commitment to promoting civic education fosters a hopeful outlook for bolstered democratic participation, empowering citizens to actively engage in local governance. Engaging the public in this manner reinforces the foundation of democracy in Fiji, paving the way for a more participatory future.
