Fiji’s Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu, emphasized the importance of police and government officials setting a standard by adhering to traffic regulations. Police officers have been instructed to apply traffic laws consistently to encourage compliance among all motorists.
Recent data revealed a concerning trend, with a staggering 73 percent rise in traffic fatalities this quarter compared to previous years, resulting in 26 deaths, including nine pedestrians, nine drivers, and eight passengers. The Commissioner attributed the continuous increase in road fatalities to poor driving habits, despite the ongoing road safety awareness campaigns.
Tudravu urged the citizens of Fiji to modify their driving behaviors and embrace safer practices, especially with the festive season approaching. He stressed the necessity of collective responsibility among drivers to strictly adhere to road safety guidelines.
