The Government of Fiji has expressed warm congratulations to the Republic of Korea as it celebrates its National Foundation Day. In a show of solidarity and friendship, His Lordship Chief Justice Salesi Temo, Acting President and Head of State, attended the commemorative celebration alongside Cabinet Ministers and members of the diplomatic corps.
During the event, Mrs. Kiti Temo, Chief of Protocol, delivered remarks on behalf of the Fijian Government, highlighting the longstanding partnership that has flourished over 54 years of diplomatic relations between Fiji and Korea. This relationship is marked by strong cooperation across pivotal development areas, including renewable energy, health, education, agriculture, and climate resilience.
The continued support from the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) has been instrumental in this partnership, with 13 active projects in Fiji valued at more than USD $72 million. These projects signify the depth of the bilateral relationship and serve as reminders of the commitment both nations have towards sustainable development.
As Fiji and Korea celebrate this significant national occasion, Fiji has reaffirmed its dedication to working closely with Korea. The shared goal is to foster a more inclusive, secure, and sustainable future for both nations.
The history and continuity of collaborative efforts, as evidenced by previous efforts such as solar power projects and healthcare infrastructure enhancements, illustrate the mutual benefits derived from this strong partnership. Looking ahead, as the countries approach the 55th anniversary of their diplomatic ties, there is considerable optimism for future collaboration that will undoubtedly strengthen bilateral relations while fostering sustainable development in the Pacific region.
This engagement is not only a testament to the enduring friendship between Fiji and Korea but also a hopeful prospect for the ongoing advancement of both nations as they unite to face common challenges.
