The Government of Fiji has extended warm congratulations to the Republic of Korea in honor of Korea’s National Foundation Day. Acting President and Head of State, Chief Justice Salesi Temo, participated in the celebrations alongside members of the Cabinet and the diplomatic community.
During his address on behalf of the Fijian Government, Chief of Protocol Kiti Temo highlighted the enduring friendship and cooperation that have defined the relationship between Fiji and Korea for more than 54 years. This partnership has effectively fostered collaboration in key sectors such as renewable energy, healthcare, education, agriculture, and climate resilience.
The assistance from Korea, particularly through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), remains significant. Currently, the two countries are engaged in 13 active projects valued at over USD $72 million, with completion scheduled for 2025. Prominent projects include solar power initiatives and agricultural cooperation on Ovalau Island, improvements to healthcare infrastructure, and educational development programs at Fiji National University.
As Fiji joins Korea in celebrating this pivotal occasion, it reaffirms its commitment to working closely with Korea to build a future that is inclusive, secure, and sustainable. The upcoming 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship further emphasizes shared values of democracy, peace, and the strong collaboration developed over the years.
This enduring partnership not only promises immediate benefits for the citizens of Fiji but also positions the country for a hopeful and prosperous development path, aligned with global initiatives such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The ongoing collaboration between Fiji and Korea underlines a mutual commitment to uplift communities and foster sustainable development in the Pacific region, reflecting a collective vision for a brighter future.
