The Government of Fiji has extended heartfelt congratulations to the Republic of Korea on the occasion of Korea’s National Foundation Day. Acting President and Head of State, Chief Justice Salesi Temo, attended the celebrations along with members of the Cabinet and the diplomatic corps.
In his remarks on behalf of the Fijian Government, Chief of Protocol Kiti Temo emphasized the importance of the longstanding friendship and cooperation that has defined the relationship between Fiji and Korea for over 54 years of diplomatic ties. This partnership is characterized by collaborative efforts in vital sectors including renewable energy, health, education, agriculture, and climate resilience.
Korea’s continued support, particularly through the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), is evident as the two nations have engaged in 13 active projects valued at over USD $72 million scheduled for completion in 2025. Notable projects include initiatives aimed at solar power and agricultural coexistence on Ovalau Island, enhancements of healthcare infrastructure, and educational capacity-building efforts at the Fiji National University.
As both nations celebrate this significant occasion, Fiji reaffirms its commitment to closely work with Korea towards building a future that is inclusive, secure, and sustainable. The forthcoming 55th anniversary of their diplomatic relationship further underscores the mutual ideals of democracy, peace, and the robust collaborations cultivated over the years.
This ongoing partnership not only promises immediate benefits for the people of Fiji but also positions the country for a hopeful and prosperous developmental trajectory, aligning with global initiatives like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The collaborative efforts of Fiji and Korea signify a continued commitment to uplift communities and promote sustainable development in the Pacific region, underlining a shared vision for a brighter tomorrow.
