Senior leaders from the Ministry of Health and Medical Services have kicked off the year by convening a vital three-day National Strategic Planning Workshop at the Pearl Resort in Pacific Harbour. This initiative aims to chart the future course of Fiji’s health care system.
During the opening of the workshop, Assistant Minister for Health and Medical Services Penioni Ravunawa underscored the significance of the discussions, especially as the Ministry seeks to refine and strengthen the initial draft of its Strategic Plan. He emphasized that the firsthand insights from senior managers working in hospitals, health centers, and communities across the nation are indispensable for creating a practical and responsive plan.
Ravunawa pointed out that the Strategic Plan will act as a guiding compass for the Ministry, influencing key policy decisions, directing the allocation of scarce resources, and determining the nature of health service delivery throughout the country. He noted that this plan will address major challenges such as the escalating prevalence of non-communicable diseases, emerging health threats, and ongoing pressures on the health workforce and infrastructure.
The Assistant Minister reiterated the importance of robust, informed planning to ensure the provision of sustainable, equitable, and high-quality health services for all Fijians, both now and into the future. This workshop not only reflects the Ministry’s commitment to enhancing public health but also represents a proactive approach to meet the evolving healthcare demands of the nation.
