The Fijian government is closely observing the rising tensions in the Middle East, particularly concerning the dynamics between the United States, Israel, and Iran. Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sakiasi Ditoka, has assured that Fiji’s diplomatic missions and honorary consuls in the region are maintaining regular communication with local authorities to safeguard the well-being of Fijian nationals.
Currently, there are no confirmed instances of Fijians being directly impacted by the recent turmoil; however, a significant number of Fijians reside and work in Qatar and other Gulf nations. As a precaution, the Ministry is actively reviewing its contingency plans and is prepared to offer consular support if required.
Fijians in the region are encouraged to remain calm, heed official advisories from their host governments, and keep in touch with their families in Fiji. Those who have not registered with their nearest Fijian diplomatic mission are urged to do so to facilitate communication and support.
Minister Ditoka has conveyed reassurance to families back home that the situation is under constant surveillance, and updates will be communicated should there be any changes. Fiji continues to promote restraint, constructive dialogue, and peaceful resolutions to conflicts in line with international law. This diplomatic stance underscores Fiji’s steadfast commitment to supporting its citizens abroad, reflecting a hopeful and constructive approach during these challenging times.
