Minister for Information Lynda Tabuya participated in Fiji’s inaugural Justice Summit 2025 held in Nadi, a historic event designed to unite key leaders, government representatives, judiciary officials, civil society, and international partners to foster a more equitable and people-focused justice system in Fiji.
At the summit, Tabuya praised the Ministry of Justice for spearheading an inclusive reform initiative. She affirmed that “true justice is not only found in the courtroom, but in how we communicate, listen, and ensure every Fijian is treated with dignity and respect.” This sentiment emphasizes the importance of integrating community voices in justice reform efforts, a theme echoed in ongoing discussions and initiatives aimed at enhancing the accessibility and effectiveness of Fiji’s judicial framework.
The summit featured a keynote address by Acting Attorney-General and Minister for Justice Siromi Turaga, who presented crucial documents including the Final Report on the Functional Status of Fiji’s Law and Justice Sector and the 2025–2029 Reform Roadmap. These reports delineate the next phase of reform aimed at overcoming systemic challenges while bolstering public trust in the rule of law. His Excellency Acting President and Chief Justice Salesi Temo officially launched these important documents, underscoring the event’s significance.
Tabuya recognized the collaborative spirit evident in discussions, thanking various partners including Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, the Judiciary, the Fiji Law Society, and a host of civil and faith-based organization representatives. She commented, “The progress we make in justice reform depends not only on legal frameworks but also on how we communicate those reforms to the people. Transparency, dialogue, and trust are essential.”
This summit represents a pivotal step in Fiji’s ongoing journey towards a more responsive and transparent legal system, resonating with the recent Cabinet endorsement of the Functional Review of Fiji’s Law and Justice Sector.
