Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has expressed the Fijian Government’s heartfelt appreciation for the contributions of Rokuichiro Michii, Japan’s outgoing Ambassador to Fiji, during a farewell meeting held in Suva yesterday. Rabuka acknowledged Michii for his exemplary leadership and significant efforts in enhancing the partnership between Fiji and Japan.
The Prime Minister noted that Michii’s tenure had not only strengthened bilateral relations but had also created a lasting foundation for future cooperation between the two nations. Reflecting on his recent official visit to Japan, Rabuka emphasized the warm hospitality extended to him and his delegation, which he believes has further solidified the friendship shared by Fiji and Japan.
Rabuka highlighted Japan’s continued support for Fiji, mentioning collaborative efforts in crucial areas such as climate resilience, infrastructure development, and disaster preparedness, while attributing much of this progress to Ambassador Michii’s dedication.
In response, Ambassador Michii expressed his gratitude for the support and kindness he received from the Fijian Government and its citizens during his time in the country. He conveyed that it had been a privilege to serve in Fiji, a nation with which Japan shares mutual respect, common values, and a growing partnership.
This positive collaboration marks a promising future as both nations look to continue fostering their relationship across various sectors.
