The Embassy of the Republic of Fiji in Jerusalem has raised a significant security alert for Fijian nationals living in Israel amid rising military tensions involving the United States, Israel, and Iran. This warning, issued by Fiji’s Ambassador to Israel, Jesoni Vitusagavulu, comes as air defense systems and sirens have been activated throughout central and southern Israel in response to an increase in missile and drone activity. Fortunately, Israel’s sophisticated multi-layered defense systems are currently functioning, providing a safety net for residents.
According to the Embassy, all Fijian citizens, including students in Ramat Negev and embassy personnel in Jerusalem, are reported to be safe, with no incidents affecting them. However, the Embassy has deemed it necessary to implement heightened safety measures. Fijian nationals in Israel are encouraged to follow shelter-in-place protocols, seeking refuge in reinforced safe rooms upon hearing sirens or receiving alerts.
Furthermore, community members are advised to prepare emergency “go-bags” containing essential items such as important documents, medications, and water supplies to ensure they are ready for any potential emergencies. The Embassy strongly recommends avoiding military sites, government buildings, and large gatherings while staying updated through official announcements from Israel’s Home Front Command.
The Fijian Mission is maintaining ongoing communication with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade in Suva and local security agencies, urging citizens to remain calm and support each other during this challenging period. This proactive stance underscores the need for preparedness and personal safety in light of emerging threats, ultimately aiming to strengthen community bonds and resilience amongst Fijians living abroad.
