Fiji Immigration Goes Appointment-Only: No Walk-Ins for Most Applicants

The Ministry of Immigration in Fiji has announced a new policy change, effective from Monday, September 29, 2025, aimed at making service delivery more efficient. The ministry will no longer accept walk-in customers, requiring all applicants to make appointments. This move is intended to streamline operations and enhance the overall service experience for applicants.

According to Aliki Salusalu, Permanent Secretary for Immigration, the only exceptions to this rule for urgent applications are within specific categories such as medical reasons, official travel, study, work, and returning Fiji citizens and permanent residence (PR) holders. Such cases must be accompanied by the required supporting documentation.

Passport enrolments and collection services will continue to be available from Monday to Friday, between 8:30 AM and 3:00 PM. Mr. Salusalu underscored the significance of this new system, which is designed to offer a smoother experience for all applicants and improve service delivery.

This announcement follows a recent advisory from the Fiji Immigration Department about an increase in online appointment slots for passport applications. Mason Smith, Permanent Secretary for Home Affairs and Immigration, had told the public there was ample stock of passports available, discouraging any rush for appointments except in emergency situations.

This gradual shift towards an appointment-based system reflects a commitment to improving operational efficiency within the Department, ensuring that applicants receive faster and more reliable service.

Citizens are encouraged to utilize the online booking system to manage their appointments and ensure they are adequately prepared, especially in urgent cases. This new approach by the Ministry aims not just to increase efficiency but also to provide a more streamlined and hassle-free service for the people of Fiji.
