A six-bedroom house situated along Nadogo Road in Seaqaqa’s Northern Division caught fire yesterday afternoon at approximately 2 p.m. The home belonged to Viliame Lawavau, who was not present alongside his 70-year-old mother during the incident. Thankfully, vigilant neighbors noticed the flames and promptly woke her, assisting her in safely evacuating the house without injury.

Joel Israel, the Acting Chief Executive of the National Fire Authority (NFA), was relieved that no lives were lost due to the fire. He highlighted that this unfortunate incident brings to light the potential dangers of unattended cooking and faulty electrical connections, urging the public to prioritize fire safety within their homes. Israel also called upon Fijians to be prepared for emergencies and reminded them to reach out to authorities by calling 910 if needed.

The NFA is currently investigating the fire’s origin, emphasizing the critical need for awareness and preventive measures against fires. This event highlights the importance of community vigilance and proactive safety practices, reinforcing the notion that collective efforts can significantly enhance safety in households.
