A tragic incident occurred yesterday afternoon along the Nausori Highlands route, resulting in the death of a 15-year-old male student. The young victim was traveling with seven other students towards Nadi when their vehicle lost control while navigating a steep descent.
Reports indicate that the vehicle overturned during the descent, leading to all passengers being ejected upon impact. The vehicle subsequently fell into a ravine, plunging roughly 100 meters down a cliff. Emergency services quickly arrived at the scene, and the injured occupants were rushed to Nadi Hospital for medical attention. Unfortunately, the 15-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Authorities have confirmed that three other students are currently hospitalized but are in stable condition, while the remaining passengers, including the driver, received treatment and were later released. The Fiji Police Force is actively investigating the circumstances that led to this tragic accident.
As the community processes this heartbreaking event, there is hope that improved road safety measures will be a focal point to prevent future tragedies on such perilous routes. The incident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of careful driving, especially in challenging terrains.
