Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, Ajay Amrit, recently joined the Fijian community in Brisbane to commemorate five years of impactful charity work carried out abroad. This celebration highlighted the contributions of Fijians, particularly members of the Alpha and Omega Church, who have been instrumental in supporting the homeless through a continuous feeding and clothing program.
The Feeding Program was initiated during the COVID period by Pastor Meli Tamanisau and his wife, Everlyn. It has become a crucial weekly event, engaging numerous volunteers, among them workers from the PALM Scheme. The initiative began when Pastor Meli would bring home meat for the congregation, and Everlyn suggested they cook and distribute it to those in need rather than keep it within their circle.
During this event, High Commissioner Amrit praised the Fijian community’s commitment to charity and service, emphasizing that helping the underprivileged is a remarkable experience. Amrit took part in distributing food packs and urged the community to persist in their noble efforts to assist the homeless.
