The Ministry of Health and Medical Services is now engaged in discussions aimed at revising the concession agreement with Health Care Fiji (Pte) Ltd, marking a significant change from previous negotiations where the ministry was not involved. Health Minister Dr. Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu expressed his appreciation for this newfound participation, emphasizing the ministry’s vital role as a stakeholder in this public-private partnership.

For the first time, the Ministry of Health is actively contributing to the drafting of the new agreement, which Dr. Lalabalavu noted is a departure from prior discussions that excluded their input. The ministry is keen to ensure that essential factors relating to public health service delivery are prioritized as part of these negotiations. The late Permanent Secretary, Dr. Jemesa Tudravu, is remembered for his contributions to the committee, and this current dialogue continues that legacy.

Aspen Medical Fiji’s CEO, Gavin Whiteside, has also confirmed that a second round of discussions involving the government, Health Care Fiji, and Aspen Medical concerning the concession agreement will take place later this week. This cooperative approach is expected to foster a more inclusive and effective model for health services in the community, creating promising prospects for enhanced healthcare delivery in the region. The collective efforts in this round of discussions signal a hopeful advancement in public health partnerships, benefitting the overall health landscape.
