The Fiji Government Services Roadshow has successfully enhanced its connections with Fijian communities in Australia, bringing essential government services directly to the diaspora. Spearheaded by the Fiji High Commission in Canberra and in collaboration with various government ministries, the roadshow commenced on September 25, 2025, in Uluru, a culturally significant site in Australia.
This year marks a notable moment in history, as Fiji’s High Commissioner to Australia, His Excellency Ajay Amrit, was the first Fijian Head of Mission to visit the Barkly region. During this visit, he expressed heartfelt gratitude towards the local community for their warm hospitality and recognition of Fijians’ enduring contributions to both their localities and Fiji.
“The turnout and positive spirit among the Fijians in the region were indeed heartening. The contributions from our people here reflect the resilience and strength of our community,” Amrit noted. The roadshow was not just about service delivery; it provided a platform to discuss critical economic opportunities for Fiji, focusing on trade, investment, and the need for closer business collaborations.
Among the notable members of the delegation was Jone Maritino Nemani, the Permanent Secretary for Employment, Productivity, and Workplace Relations. He engaged with PALM workers and the Fijian diaspora, acknowledging their hard work and the support they receive locally. The event held in Barkly, along with subsequent stops in Alice Springs, Tennant Creek, Victoria, and Queensland, allowed Fijian communities to access various consular services, including voter registration and enrollment in the Vola ni Kawa Bula (VKB).
Moreover, the Fiji Day celebrations hosted in Brisbane and Sydney were a significant highlight, where thousands gathered to connect and celebrate their heritage. Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka officiated the Sydney event, signaling the government’s ongoing commitment to its citizens abroad and their welfare.
The roadshow reflects a broader effort by the Fijian government to strengthen ties with its citizens living overseas. It underscores the importance of maintaining connections, enhancing accessibility to government services, and fostering a supportive environment for Fijians in Australia. This initiative promises to cultivate lasting relationships and foster collaboration, benefiting both Fijians abroad and their homeland as they continue to play a vital role in national development.
