The Fiji Primary Schools Football Association has officially launched the 48th Fiji Primary Schools Inter-District Championship (IDC) on Wednesday, October 24, 2025, at the Fiji Football Association headquarters in Vatuwaqa. Scheduled to take place from October 27 to 31, 2025, at Kings Charles Park in Nadi, this year’s tournament marks a significant milestone as it celebrates the FPSFA’s Golden Jubilee, commemorating 50 years of development in grassroots football.
Since its founding in 1975, the FPSFA has been instrumental in nurturing and producing some of Fiji’s top football talents. This year’s IDC is poised to be the largest ever, featuring 21 boys’ teams and 11 girls’ teams competing from four zones strategically spread across the nation. Avinesh Raj, a member of the association’s executive, shared his reflections during the launch, stating, “This year is a special celebration, our Golden Jubilee, a testament to fifty years of passion, perseverance, and purpose in developing football from the grassroots.”
Further emphasizing the importance of grassroots efforts, Fiji FA’s CEO Mohammed Yusuf reiterated the organization’s commitment to nurturing young talent. He remarked, “Every talent needs a chance, every talent needs exposure, and every talent deserves to be developed. The primary school IDC remains a vital platform for nurturing Fiji’s future football stars.”
The Fiji Football Association is investing $20,000 in the championship, which includes a $15,000 development grant and an additional $5,000 from the Youth Development Fund aimed at enhancing the girls’ competition. The association extends its gratitude to all sponsors for their ongoing support, highlighting the collective effort in promoting sports among the youth.
As anticipation builds leading up to the events, the 48th IDC stands as a proud celebration of the bright future of Fijian football, created through decades of community spirit and development. With this substantial foundation and commitment from governing bodies and sponsors alike, the future looks promising for aspiring young athletes in Fiji.
