Fiji Fuel Prices Shift: LPG Drops as Petrol Rises Under FCCC Watch

Fuel prices in Fiji are set for a change, with some on the rise and others seeing a decrease. The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced that the price of Motor Spirit will climb by two cents to $2.58 per liter, and Premix will increase by one cent to $2.41 per liter. Conversely, Diesel will see a more significant drop of eight cents, bringing its price down to $2.22 per liter, while Kerosene will decrease by four cents to $1.72 per liter.

These shifts in fuel prices are partially due to international market changes, including global refined fuel prices, shipping rates, and currency fluctuations. Specifically, there is an increase in the costs of Motor Spirit and Premix because of rising refined fuel prices. However, Diesel and Kerosene prices have benefited from decreased import costs and a weaker U.S. dollar.

In addition to these fuel price adjustments, there is good news for LPG users as all LPG cylinders and bulk prices will decrease. The 4.5 kg cylinder will see a reduction of $0.75, making it $13.52, and the 12 kg cylinder will be priced $2 less at $36.05. Bulk LPG will decrease by 16 cents per kg, and Autogas will drop by 11 cents per liter. This reduction in LPG prices is attributed to lower international butane and propane prices, reduced demand in Asia, and decreased shipping costs.

As Fiji responds to these international market shifts and the country’s import costs for August 2025, the FCCC will carry out inspections to ensure that new pricing is adhered to at retail levels. Consumers are encouraged to report any cases of overcharging or hoarding to the FCCC.

The fluctuating prices indicate a global volatility reflected in local markets. However, the decrease in certain fuel products and LPG provides some reprieve for Fijian households, balancing out the increases in Motor Spirit and Premix prices. The FCCC continues to play a crucial role in monitoring and adjusting these prices to maintain fairness and protect consumer interests amidst these global changes.
