Motorists in Fiji will face higher costs at the pump beginning today, January 1, 2026, as the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC) has announced new regulated prices for fuel and gas.

The latest adjustments show an increase in prices across various fuel types. Unleaded petrol now costs $2.61 per litre, reflecting a four-cent hike from the previous month. Similarly, the price of Premix has also risen by four cents to $2.45 per litre. Kerosene recorded the largest percentage rise, climbing nine cents to $1.86 per litre, while diesel saw an eight-cent increase, bringing the price to $2.35 per litre.

In a contrasting development, households using LPG gas will benefit from price reductions. The price of a 4.5kg LPG cylinder has been lowered by 29 cents to $13.33. The 12kg cylinder has also experienced a decrease of 78 cents, now priced at $35.55. Additionally, bulk LPG prices have fallen by six cents per kilogram, and Autogas is available at $1.88 per litre, a reduction of four cents.

According to the FCCC, the recent fuel price increases are attributed to rising international refined fuel prices, heightened freight costs, and the depreciation of the US dollar, based on fuel imports recorded in November 2025, under Fiji’s one-month lag pricing system. Conversely, the drop in LPG prices is primarily a result of a decline in the international Butane Contract Price, despite slightly higher freight expenses and a weaker exchange rate.

To ensure compliance with the new prices, FCCC enforcement teams will be conducting inspections across the nation at various service stations and outlets. This effort aims to maintain adherence to the latest pricing regulations, providing consumers with reassurance during this time of price fluctuations.

As Fiji navigates these changes in fuel pricing amidst global market influences, the reduction in LPG costs offers a glimmer of relief for households, indicating a nuanced response to market dynamics.
