Recent heavy rainfall in Fiji’s Western Division has resulted in considerable flooding, significantly impacting transportation. Local authorities are responding proactively to this challenging situation, emphasizing the importance of caution for all road users.

The flooding has particularly affected the Katudrau and Narara 1 crossings on Vatumani and Narara Roads in Rakiraki, which are currently closed to traffic. In Lautoka, road closures include Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road Irish Crossing, and Navula Road Irish Crossing, where the flooding has become severe.

Additionally, traffic on Buabua Flats along Buabua Road is restricted to one lane, and surface flooding has made the junction of Kings Road and Field 4 Road particularly hazardous. The situation in Ba has also worsened, with Vunisamaloa Road being rendered inaccessible.

Authorities are urging drivers to plan alternative routes and avoid all flooded areas to ensure their safety while navigating through the affected regions. This incident highlights the necessity of being prepared and vigilant during adverse weather conditions, reminding the community of the risks associated with untimely floods.

Despite the disruptions, the community’s resilience and cooperation in following safety guidelines will be essential as the region manages this natural challenge.
