The Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) has formally alerted the public following a period of intense rainfall, leading to significant flooding in various roads and crossings throughout the Western Division. Several roads are currently closed or rendered inaccessible, prompting a call for increased caution among motorists and road users.
Key areas affected by the flooding include Katudrau Crossing and Narara 1 Crossing in Rakiraki, both of which are closed to all traffic. In Lautoka, several critical routes are affected: Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road, and Navula Road are all reported as flooded and inaccessible. Buabua Flats on Buabua Road has experienced a restriction in road width to a single lane, while surface flooding has been noted at the junction of Kings Road and Field 4 Road. Additionally, Vunisamaloa Road in Ba has also been rendered impassable due to flooding.
The FRA has strongly recommended that the public avoid areas prone to flooding and instead seek alternative routes to ensure their safety. Motorists are advised to drive carefully, reduce their speed, and adhere to any traffic advisories related to flood conditions.
This situation serves as a reminder of the impact severe weather can have on infrastructure and the importance of being vigilant during adverse conditions. By following safety guidelines and remaining informed, road users can help ensure their well-being and that of others on the road.
