Recent heavy rainfall in Fiji’s Western Division has led to significant flooding, rendering several roads and crossings impassable. Authorities are taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of road users, urging motorists to exercise caution during this challenging situation.
Notably affected areas include the Katudrau and Narara 1 crossings on Vatumani and Narara Roads in Rakiraki, both of which are currently closed to all traffic. In Lautoka, additional closures have been reported on Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road Irish Crossing, and Navula Road Irish Crossing due to flooding.
Traffic on Buabua Flats along Buabua Road is limited to a single lane, while surface flooding has created hazardous conditions at the junction of Kings Road and Field 4 Road. Vunisamaloa Road in Ba has also been impacted, leaving it inaccessible.
Authorities are recommending that drivers plan alternative routes and avoid flooded areas to ensure their safety while navigating the affected regions. This situation serves as a reminder of the importance of preparedness during adverse weather conditions.
