Motorists in Fiji’s Western Division are being cautioned to exercise heightened caution as persistent heavy rainfall is leading to significant flooding, making numerous roads and crossings unmanageable. With authorities confirming the closure or restricted access of multiple routes in areas including Rakiraki, Lautoka, Ba, and Tavua, it is essential for drivers to heed official road closure notices to mitigate the risk of accidents.

In Rakiraki, important crossings such as Katudrau, Narara 1, Drana Crossing on Korotale Road, FSC Road, and Waimari Road are completely closed. Additionally, sections of Kings Road between the Volivoli Road Junction and Ellington are only accessible to four-wheel-drive and larger vehicles.

Lautoka has also suffered from severe flooding, resulting in several crossings along the Irish stretch of Saru Back Road, Vaivai Road, Navula Road, Drasa Dam Road, and Abaca Road being shut off. Part of Buabua Road is now limited to a single lane, with access to certain crossings restricted to four-wheel-drive vehicles as well.

Meanwhile, in Ba and Tavua, flooding has led to the closure of multiple crossings including Vatuyaka, Varadoli, Cemetery Road, Koula Road, Marinitawa Road, and Vunisamaloa Road, along with additional routes on Dramasi Road. Some areas remain passable only to vehicles with high clearance.

Authorities remind road users not to attempt crossing flooded areas and to remain vigilant while planning travel until conditions improve. The community’s cooperation in following these safety measures is vital, and there is hope that the water levels will recede soon, allowing for safe travel once again.
