Minister for Finance Esrom Immanuel has confirmed that Cecil Browne has re-assumed the role of Chair of the Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission (FCCC). Browne’s return comes amidst significant changes within the commission, including the appointment of former CEO Joel Abraham, who took the position on Christmas Eve.

When questioned about Abraham’s status, Minister Immanuel clarified that Abraham was not removed from his role but is in the process of resigning to focus on other economic priorities instead of FCCC’s internal governance matters. This decision comes as Abraham had previously indicated an intention to address the recent increase in electricity tariffs following his appointment.

Immanuel emphasized that issues regarding FCCC’s processes and governance will be managed by his team at the Commerce Ministry moving forward. Efforts to obtain responses from Joel Abraham and Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau are currently underway. This leadership transition reflects a broader commitment to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of the FCCC during a challenging economic climate.
