The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has issued a warning regarding a trough of low pressure that is currently affecting Fiji, leading to persistent showers and the risk of heavy downpours across several regions today and into Sunday.
In a bulletin released early this morning, meteorologists noted that this weather phenomenon, coupled with a prevailing wind flow from the south to northeast, is contributing to unstable atmospheric conditions, primarily in the eastern and central regions of the country.
Residents in areas stretching from the Coral Coast to Navua, as well as those within the Greater Suva–Nausori–Tailevu corridor, and the Ra–Naitasiri and Serua–Namosi districts can expect occasional showers and isolated instances of heavy rainfall. The southern provinces of Bua and Cakaudrove, along with the Lau and Lomaiviti islands, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands are also forecasted to experience wet weather.
While the majority of the Fiji group may see predominantly fine weather, there is still a possibility of isolated showers in the afternoons and evenings. Authorities are warning that sporadic thunderstorms and intense rain may lead to flash flooding, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, prompting a call for communities to exercise caution and remain alert.
The outlook for Sunday suggests a continuation of today’s weather patterns, with ongoing showers and potential heavy downpours in the same regions. As weather conditions evolve, residents are encouraged to stay updated and take necessary precautions against possible impacts.
