Fiji Faces Showers and Flash Flood Warnings As Low-Pressure System Lingers

A trough of low pressure continues to influence the northern and eastern regions of Fiji, bringing cloudy skies and rain. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi has reported that occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are expected, particularly in the Northern Division, which includes Vanua Levu, Taveuni, the islands of Cikobia and Qelelevu. The interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, covering areas from Serua-Namosi through Navua to Suva-Nausori and up to Tailevu North, will also experience similar weather conditions. Additional regions, including Kadavu, Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups, are anticipated to be impacted as well.

Forecasters have issued warnings about the possibility of isolated heavy falls leading to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas. Beyond these affected regions, other parts of Fiji are predicted to see generally fine weather, aside from isolated showers and thunderstorms which may occur in the afternoon or evening.

Looking forward to Sunday, the weather is expected to retain this trend of occasional showers accompanied by isolated heavy falls and thunderstorms in the interior and eastern parts of Viti Levu, along with southern Bua, Cakaudrove, Taveuni, Kadavu, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups.

This ongoing weather system highlights the need for residents to stay informed and prepared as it may pose risks yet also brings vital rainfall beneficial for agriculture and water supplies. The situation reflects the resilience of the communities, who adapt to these natural occurrences while hoping for swift improvements in the weather.
