In a significant decision, the Fiji Football Association (Fiji FA) has ruled in favor of Nadi FC after a protest against Navua FC for fielding an ineligible player. The controversy arose during their Round 18 Extra Premier League match on Sunday, where Navua FC was found to have played a suspended player who had accumulated yellow cards. Despite receiving formal communication about the suspension via email on September 16 and 24, Navua FC moved forward with the player’s participation.
An emergency meeting was convened by the Fiji FA Board of Control at 5:30 pm, where it confirmed that Navua FC had violated league regulations. As stated in Article 26.3 of the Extra Premier League Regulations, the protest was upheld in favor of Nadi FC, awarding them three points and a 3-0 victory for the match.
In addition to this ruling, the Fiji FA announced a comprehensive inquiry into the incident, as per Articles 6.1 and 6.2(a) of its Regulations on Integrity of the Competition and Match-Fixing. The association has called for its Integrity Committee to perform a thorough investigation involving both clubs. A detailed report is expected to be presented at the upcoming Board meeting this Saturday. Depending on the findings, the matter may be escalated to the Ethics Committee for potential further action.
The Fiji FA reiterated its commitment to maintaining transparency and discipline within domestic football, reaffirming its dedication to integrity and fair play. This stance reinforces previous actions by the association, such as standing down match officials over questionable decisions, addressing player eligibility issues, and enforcing regulatory compliance across various districts.
This ruling contributes to a broader effort by the Fiji FA to uphold the principles of fair play and transparency in its competitions, ensuring accountability and integrity within Fijian football. As the association continues to navigate similar challenges, it demonstrates an unwavering commitment to fostering a fair and respected football environment for all players, teams, and fans involved.
