The Fijian Ministry of Health, in collaboration with EqualMed, has launched a crucial distribution of medical supplies targeting key communities, beginning with the Tailevu and Rewa divisions. Assistant Health Minister Penioni Ravunawa confirmed that villages such as Drekena in Rewa and Burebasaga are among the initial beneficiaries of this initiative. The supplies, generously donated by EqualMed, are crucial in enhancing healthcare services in these regions.
Selvin Prasad, Director of Health Operations for EqualMed, highlighted their dedication to reaching smaller, underserved communities. This effort aligns with EqualMed’s mission to extend healthcare access beyond urban areas, ensuring medical supplies reach those most in need.
This initiative builds on the history of collaboration with EqualMed, which included a notable $1.1 million donation of medical supplies to Fiji’s Ministry of Health earlier this year. Cumulatively, this partnership has donated over $5 million to Fiji’s healthcare, significantly bolstering the sector by supporting healthcare professionals and improving care quality for Fijians.
In addition, this ongoing effort is part of the Fijian government’s larger strategy, in conjunction with international partners like Japan, to enhance health infrastructure and emergency services. The overarching aim is to increase healthcare accessibility, ensuring that all Fijians, especially in rural areas, receive timely and effective medical care.
As Fiji strives to advance its healthcare systems, initiatives like these mark significant strides towards more resilient and inclusive healthcare services. By tackling healthcare disparities and enhancing accessibility, Fijian communities can anticipate better health outcomes and a healthier future.
