The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) is actively gearing up for the upcoming general election, with key legal timelines firmly established. Ana Mataiciwa, the Supervisor of Elections, addressed the proactive measures being taken to communicate important information about potential writ and election dates to the public.

Mataiciwa indicated that the first potential issuance of the election writ is expected on June 24, 2026, which would subsequently lead to the election date set for August 7, 2026. On the other hand, if the writ is issued on the latest possible date, which falls on Christmas Eve of the same year, the election could be rescheduled for February 6, 2027. She reiterated that the primary responsibility of the office revolves around preparing for the general election, confirming that these preparations are already in progress.

Although much of the logistical work has been conducted behind the scenes, Mataiciwa reassured the public that there will be an increase in engagement and awareness initiatives as the election date approaches. She advised citizens not to be alarmed by the current lack of extensive electoral campaigns, as the FEO is focused on establishing a robust foundation for a seamless electoral process.

The dedication of the FEO to public engagement signifies a positive shift towards ensuring an informed electorate, ultimately aiming to make the voting experience straightforward and accessible for all Fijians.
