A three-year-old child has tragically become the latest victim of drowning in Fiji. Authorities reported that a missing persons report was filed at the Nasinu Police Station on the morning of November 1st, after the child disappeared from their home in Naibulivatu Settlement, Laqere. Family members and police officers immediately initiated search efforts to locate the young child.
Sadly, the child’s lifeless body was later found floating in a river near the Wakanisila Settlement. The police have confirmed that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
This incident adds to an ongoing concern about drowning in the country. Currently, the national drowning toll stands at 27, a notable decrease compared to 45 cases reported during the same time frame last year.
