The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is making strides in the extradition process of Christopher Pryde, the Director of Public Prosecutions, who is currently residing in New Zealand. This follows the issuance of corruption-related charges against him, including multiple counts of Abuse of Office and allegations of causing financial loss. Today, his case was brought before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad in Suva.
Pryde has been absent from his position since his reinstatement earlier this year and faces serious allegations that include approving and receiving four gratuity payments totaling $138,445.05 without the necessary authorizations from the Office of the President and the Judicial Services Commission. Additionally, he is charged with dishonestly causing a financial loss to his office by accepting unauthorized payments and improperly reimbursing airfare expenses for his family. Another count involves his failure to return $7,828.56 for unused airline tickets, which he received from the airline directly.
FICAC’s acting commissioner, Lavi Rokoika, provided an update to the magistrate regarding the extradition process, which will resume on December 12 for further updates on the case.
