The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) is progressing with the extradition process of Christopher Pryde, the Director of Public Prosecutions currently based in New Zealand. This action follows a series of corruption-related charges against him, which include multiple counts of Abuse of Office and accusations of causing financial loss. His case was addressed today before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad in Suva.
Since his reinstatement earlier this year, Pryde has not performed his duties and now faces serious allegations. These include approving and receiving four unauthorized gratuity payments that total $138,445.05, without the necessary authorizations from the Office of the President and the Judicial Services Commission. Additionally, he stands accused of causing a financial loss to his office by accepting payments without approval and improperly reimbursing travel expenses for his family. Furthermore, there is a charge related to his failure to return $7,828.56 for unused airline tickets received directly from the airline.
In an update to the magistrate, FICAC’s acting commissioner, Lavi Rokoika, revealed that the extradition process is set to continue with a follow-up on December 12.
