The Civil Service Medal is presented to honor excellence, integrity, and commitment among public servants in Fiji, celebrating those who demonstrate remarkable performance and leadership. President Lalabalavu commended the awardees for their steadfast professionalism and dedication, emphasizing that their work has inspired pride within the Fijian Civil Service and motivated others in similar roles to maintain high standards of service.
The first medalist, Mr. Sanaila Laqai, currently serves as the First Secretary at the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi. With over 15 years in civil service, Laqai has significantly improved Fiji’s diplomatic relationships with nations including China, the UAE, and various countries across the Gulf, Middle East, and North Africa regions. He has also shown outstanding support for the Fijian diaspora, particularly through his consular services.
The second honoree, Mr. Jaljeet Kumar, holds the position of Second Secretary at the same embassy and brings 19 years of civil service experience. His previous assignments in Seoul and Washington D.C. have featured notable contributions to Fiji’s international relations, especially with Korea, the United States, Canada, and the UAE, thereby enhancing Fiji’s diplomatic prominence on the global stage.
In concluding the ceremony, President Lalabalavu congratulated both individuals for their committed service to national interests. He reiterated the government’s commitment to recognizing the invaluable work done by Fijians serving abroad, fostering an environment of appreciation and motivation for all civil servants.
This celebration of dedication serves as a powerful reminder of the essential roles that diplomats and civil servants play in advancing Fiji’s interests worldwide.
