Chinese national Yin Qing Qing is set to be deported following the completion of her 10-month prison sentence, according to Immigration Minister Viliame Naupoto. In a recent interview, Mr. Naupoto emphasized that this procedure is standard for any foreigner convicted of a crime while in the country, underscoring the legal framework in place for such instances.

Qing’s sentencing took place this week at the Suva Magistrate’s Court, where she was found guilty of illegal employment while on a tourist visa. Authorities discovered $3,835 in cash within her room at the Yue Lai Hotel and an additional $3,009.98 in her MPAiSA account, which are believed to be proceeds from criminal activity during her stay in Fiji.

Her legal troubles began in September of the previous year when she faced charges, alongside co-accused Joshua Ravula, for unlawful possession of 42.95 grams of methamphetamine. However, those serious charges were later dismissed by the Director of Public Prosecutions in December due to a lack of sufficient evidence, resulting in Ravula alone facing charges regarding the possession of the illicit substance.

Minister Naupoto reiterated that the same deportation protocols will be applied to any foreign visitors to Fiji who engage in illegal activities during their holidays. This case serves not only as a reminder of the legal ramifications of such actions in foreign countries but also the commitment to upholding the law consistently for all visitors.
