Tournament director Harley Wall expressed his excitement for this year’s opening round, praising the remarkable preparation displayed by participating teams.
Wall noted that the tournament continues to grow, with 34 teams competing this year, marking an increase in participation. “The teams that have come have prepared well for this tournament. We are excited to have some big teams in the world come for the Fiji Cup this year,” he said, highlighting participants from New Zealand, Australia, and the inaugural team from the USA.
Assistant Tournament Director Nanise Tikoicina shared her enthusiasm over the intense competition on the first day. In the Open Men’s category, Wairere stood out, demonstrating significant prowess by winning their matches with dominating performances, including a decisive 12-1 victory against AZ1 in Section A. Section B also delivered captivating games, with teams like Elementz and Bolts showcasing their skills.
As the tournament moves forward, anticipation builds for today’s finals, promising an exhilarating conclusion to the touch rugby segment.
