The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption has updated the Duva Magistrate Court regarding the ongoing case involving former Finance Minister and current member of Parliament, Professor Biman Prasad. The court has set a date for a stay application hearing in the Suva High Court on March 19.

The case will continue with a pre-trial conference scheduled for April 20. Meanwhile, Prasad’s bail has been extended.

Prasad faces serious allegations, including failing to meet statutory disclosure requirements and providing false information in a statutory declaration. The accusations stem from an incident on December 30, 2015, when he purportedly failed to declare his directorship in Platinum Hotels & Resorts Pte Limited in his annual declaration of assets, liabilities, and income, as required under the Political Parties (Registration, Conduct, Funding and Disclosures) Act 2013.

Moreover, he is charged with submitting a materially false declaration by omitting this directorship, which raises significant legal and ethical implications regarding transparency and accountability in public office.

This case highlights the importance of integrity in political roles and serves as a reminder of the critical legislation designed to ensure transparency among political figures in Fiji. As the legal proceedings unfold, the emphasis on adherence to statutory requirements remains paramount in fostering public trust.
