Thirty players have been selected to represent the Fiji Corrections Services’ Wardens team as they prepare for the 2026 rugby season, signaling a significant rebuilding phase for the squad. The selection process took place during the FSC’s annual inter-unit 7s tournament, which showcased emerging talents from various divisions.

Teams from the southern, central, and western divisions each fielded three teams, while the national and northern divisions contributed two teams, making for a competitive tournament that aimed to identify suitable candidates for the Wardens team.

FSC’s spokesperson, Jone Sigavou, highlighted the importance of these trials to revitalize the 7s team following a season marked by inconsistent performances on the national stage. He noted, “This tournament was an opportunity to see the new talent we have. We’ve brought in two recruits but haven’t yet had a chance to see them in action. We were able to spot some newcomers, as well as players who have been part of Corrections for the past two years but haven’t had the platform to display their skills.”

With the 30 players now chosen, the team will focus on preparing for upcoming competitions, including the prestigious Fiji Bitter Nawaka and Marist 7s tournaments. The selection marks a hopeful step forward, as the coaching staff aims to harness fresh talent and enhance the team’s performance in the years to come.
