Acting Commissioner Auta Moceisuva of the Fiji Corrections Service has assured that recent leadership transitions will not hinder the organization’s core mission. Addressing concerns about stability following multiple suspensions over the past year, Moceisuva underscored the commitment of the service to uphold its responsibilities despite the changes in leadership.

In his remarks, Moceisuva emphasized the necessity for Corrections officers to adhere to their oath of allegiance, ensuring that the organization continues to fulfill its duty under the law. He stated, “We have an oath of allegiance that whoever comes in the position of leadership, everyone must toe the line because in an organization mandated to deliver correctional service to the centers around Fiji. Fiji Correctional Service is like at the end of the justice system.” This statement highlights his dedication to preserving the integrity of the service amid the ongoing leadership changes.

Moving forward, the Fiji Corrections Service will focus on enhancing officer capabilities, improving remuneration, and advancing overall operational effectiveness. This dedication to development comes in light of significant leadership shifts, particularly following the suspension of former commissioner Francis Kean in 2023, and the subsequent interim appointments of Salote Panapasa and Sevuloni Naucukidi, along with the dismissal of former commissioner Dr. Jalesi Nakarawa.

The ongoing emphasis on stability and improvement within the Fiji Corrections Service serves as an optimistic indication of its future, as it seeks to reinforce its mission and enhance functionality during periods of leadership fluctuation. This commitment to progress and accountability promises a brighter path for the organization and the communities it serves.
