A joint operation by the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has led to the arrest of a 40-year-old General Manager from Tamavua, along with three accomplices, after officials intercepted a suspicious drug shipment from Brazil. The main suspect has been charged with unlawful importation of illicit drugs under Section 5(b) of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.
The operation began when a package addressed to the suspect’s company, which arrived in Fiji on October 27, 2025, raised red flags during a routine screening. Labeled as a “Smoke Machine,” the package was detected by a drug detection dog. Upon further inspection, law enforcement discovered a device with a motherboard that concealed 640 grams of cocaine within a black casing.
Following a positive drug test, authorities conducted a controlled delivery operation on October 30, 2025. A police team intercepted a vehicle in the company’s parking lot, where they apprehended the primary suspect and two associates, recovering the cocaine-laden package in the process. A fourth individual was later arrested and questioned about the shipment.
The police have confirmed that formal charges have been filed against the main suspect, who is currently in custody, while the three accomplices have been released after discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
This incident underscores the ongoing commitment of Fiji’s law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region.
