A collaborative operation between the Fiji Police Force and the Fiji Revenue and Customs Service (FRCS) has resulted in the arrest of a 40-year-old General Manager from Tamavua and three accomplices following the interception of a suspected drug shipment from Brazil. The suspect has been charged with one count of Unlawful Importation of Illicit Drugs, as stipulated in Section 5(b) of the Illicit Drugs Control Act 2004.
Authorities allege that a consignment addressed to the suspect’s company arrived in Fiji on October 27, 2025. The package, labeled as a “Smoke Machine,” raised suspicions and was flagged by a drug detector dog during screening. Upon inspection, the package was discovered to contain a device with a motherboard that concealed 640 grams of cocaine within a black casing.
Following a positive test result for the substance, law enforcement initiated a controlled delivery operation. On October 30, 2025, a police team intercepted a vehicle in the company’s car park, apprehending the primary suspect and two associates while recovering the drug-filled package. A fourth individual was later arrested and questioned concerning the incident.
Police have confirmed that formal charges have been laid against the main suspect, who is currently in custody, while the other three individuals have been released after discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).
This incident highlights ongoing efforts by Fiji’s law enforcement agencies to tackle drug trafficking in the region.
