Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has confirmed that he sent an email to the National Federation Party (NFP) out of courtesy, believing it necessary to allow the party an opportunity to respond to allegations concerning its leader, Professor Biman Prasad. The email in question has triggered significant concerns within the NFP, which perceives it as part of a broader strategy aimed at creating strife within the Coalition Government.
The NFP has expressed that the correspondence could be linked to individuals both locally and internationally, raising worries about potential leaks related to an ongoing investigation. They suspect that the sender may have had prior knowledge of sensitive issues, suggesting a coordinated attempt to destabilize the coalition. NFP General Secretary Kamal Iyer stated that the claims within the email were unfounded and designed to create division among the coalition partners.
This situation arises against a backdrop of allegations made against Professor Prasad, which the NFP has categorically denied, asserting that there has been no communication with former party president Tupou Draunidalo since her resignation in 2017. Iyer condemned the email as an effort to “drive a wedge” between coalition leaders, describing it as a smear campaign aimed at undermining public confidence in the government.
Despite the tensions surrounding these allegations, the NFP remains committed to the coalition, encouraging the public to be vigilant against misinformation that seeks to incite discord. This resolve showcases a hopeful resilience as the coalition faces challenges, reaffirming the importance of unity in difficult times.
The Prime Minister’s choice to confront these allegations transparently underscores a commitment to openness, crucial for cultivating public trust. As the Coalition Government deals with external pressures, there is a positive outlook for ongoing stability and collaboration among its members, reflecting a unified approach to governance that prioritizes the welfare of the Fijian people.
