Minister for Youth and Sports and Acting Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Jese Saukuru is urging Fiji’s sporting community to embody the true spirit of Christmas by focusing on unity, safety, and healthy living. In a heartfelt Christmas message, Saukuru conveyed warm greetings to young people, athletes, coaches, administrators, and volunteers, highlighting their vital contributions to youth development and nation building through sports.

Saukuru emphasized that Christmas should be a time for reflection and gratitude, reminding all that the principles celebrated during the festive season—teamwork, discipline, respect, and unity—are also integral to sports. He encouraged young individuals to take this time to reflect on the past year, celebrate their accomplishments, and set ambitious goals for the upcoming year, urging them to continually strive for excellence both in sports and in their personal lives.

The Minister pointed out the significant role that sports play in uniting communities and promoting healthy lifestyles. He encouraged families to stay active during the holiday season and to strengthen bonds through meaningful sporting and recreational activities.

Additionally, Saukuru highlighted the importance of ensuring children’s safety during this festive period. He called upon families and communities to protect, supervise, and nurture children, ensuring they enjoy a safe and happy Christmas.

He also reminded everyone to consider the elderly and individuals with disabilities, suggesting that small gestures of kindness, such as a visit or sharing a meal, can have a profound impact. Saukuru reaffirmed the necessity for women and girls to feel safe and respected, emphasizing that there is no place for violence or abuse in any community, particularly during a season that promotes peace and goodwill.

Lastly, he noted that strong families are essential for building a resilient nation, urging everyone to take care of each other, particularly the most vulnerable members of society. Saukuru concluded his message by wishing all Fijians a Merry Christmas filled with peace, joy, and blessings, encouraging a festive atmosphere of togetherness and compassion.
