Minister for Youth and Sports and Acting Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Jese Saukuru, has called on Fiji’s sporting community to embrace the spirit of Christmas by focusing on unity, safety, and healthy living. In his heartfelt Christmas message, Saukuru extended warm greetings to young people, athletes, coaches, administrators, and volunteers, acknowledging their essential roles in youth development and nation-building through sports.

He expressed that the Christmas season is a moment for reflection and gratitude, urging everyone to hold onto the values celebrated during this time—teamwork, discipline, respect, and unity—which are equally crucial in the realm of sports. Saukuru encouraged young individuals to reflect on their past year, celebrate their successes, and set ambitious goals for the upcoming year. He inspired them to pursue excellence in both their athletic endeavors and personal growth.

The Minister highlighted the pivotal role sports play in strengthening community ties and promoting healthy lifestyles. He urged families to remain active during the holiday season, suggesting they engage in meaningful sporting and recreational activities to foster connections.

In addition to promoting activity, Saukuru stressed the importance of ensuring children’s safety during the festive period. He called on families and communities to protect and nurture children, ensuring that they experience a safe and joyful Christmas.

Furthermore, he reminded everyone to consider the elderly and individuals with disabilities, suggesting that simple acts of kindness, such as visiting or sharing a meal, can greatly impact those around them. Saukuru also emphasized the need for women and girls to feel safe and respected, pointing out that there is no room for violence or abuse in communities, especially during a time that emphasizes peace and goodwill.

Finally, he underscored the significance of strong families in building a resilient nation, urging everyone to care for one another, particularly the most vulnerable members of society. Saukuru concluded his message by wishing all Fijians a Merry Christmas filled with peace, joy, and blessings, promoting an atmosphere of togetherness and compassion.
