The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation (FBC) has recently strengthened its technological capabilities by entering into a partnership with Guangdong Radio and Television from China. This collaboration, which began last year, aims to enhance public services through the donation of equipment essential for broadcasting improvements.
Wang Yuan, the Minister-Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy in Fiji, visited the FBC broadcasting house to present the donated equipment. He noted that this initiative is part of China’s broader strategy to bolster relations with Fiji, highlighting the essential role of media in bridging understanding between the two nations. “I believe the donation from Guangdong will help FBC tell stories of our times, including the narratives of mutual respect and shared development between China and Fiji,” Wang remarked.
Chief Executive of FBC, Tarun Patel, emphasized the importance of this partnership in showcasing Fiji’s stories and opportunities to audiences, particularly those in Guangdong province. He shared his hopes that the collaboration will attract more visitors from China to Fiji, especially with the anticipated direct flights between the two countries.
The Chinese Embassy expressed that the relationship between Fiji and China continues to mature, illustrated by various collaboration efforts over the past 50 years, including the ongoing operations of a Chinese medical team at the CWM Hospital in Suva. This commitment to enhancing cooperation encompasses not only media and health services but also broader developmental and economic initiatives, promising a brighter future for both nations.
This positive relationship exemplifies how international partnerships can yield tangible benefits, fostering cultural exchange and technological advancement while addressing the needs of local communities.
