The Fijian Cabinet has recently approved the partial surrender of a lease for the Colo-i-Suva Forestry Reserve, a decision designed to support the Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) in bolstering its infrastructure. This initiative aims to upgrade the water service delivery system along the corridor from Sawani to Colo-i-Suva, with a focus on enhancing water supply capacity for local communities, especially those situated between Sawani and Tacirua.

WAF’s plans involve utilizing a section of the forest reserve adjacent to its current reservoir in Colo-i-Suva, which is expected to allow for a considerable expansion of its facilities. However, specific details regarding the extent of the land being surrendered and the timeline for the WAF project launch are still pending.

This initiative underscores a strong commitment to improving vital water services in Fiji, targeting the needs of communities that depend on reliable access to water. Upgrading water infrastructure is crucial for driving sustainable growth and ensuring that residents can count on clean and safe water. This project not only aims to address immediate water delivery issues but also fosters long-term benefits for the local population, contributing positively to their quality of life.
